Guide to Bangkok rooftop bars, big views, and sensory escapes

Amidst meditative temples and riverboat chatter, Bangkok is abuzz as rooftop sky bars battle it out with live shows, giant statues and mellow vinyl. We explore some escapes from intimate to grand and pulsating.

IN BANGKOK where hoteliers once beat chests over the best pools and rooms with a view, the battle has moved to rooftop bars. These sky bars have sprouted as everyone with a half-decent roof, a BTS view and two chairs has sprung into action. Fortunately, there are some excellent offerings with a varied pace to pick from as well as multiple locations and floor levels for the Insta crowd to frame their best shots.

At reborn Dusit Thani Bangkok, the smart-casual Spire Rooftop Bar (spire-rooftop-bar) opens at 5pm to catch the sunset with a 360-degree panorama and the new golden spire of the hotel a reminder of its historic DNA as a city landmark. View green-lung Lumphini Park and surrounding buildings. It is a relaxed open spot for some imaginative cocktails and bites. And atop the conjoined Central Park office tower on the 44th floor is AETHER (www.aetherbkk.com) for dizzying landscapes and soundscapes as the music flows from giant speakers. This rooftop alfresco bar is a few floors higher than Spire. Not far from here, Bangkok Marriott Hotel, The Surawongse, serves up the classy and relaxed YAO Rooftop Bar (www.yaobangkok.com) with late night nibbles. This place is often paired with the excellent Chinese restaurant of the same name.

A little farther along, accessed from the Chong Nonsi BTS Station, is Sky Beach (skybeach-rooftopbar), on the 78th floor of The Standard Bangkok Mahanakhon. This is a vertiginous eyrie — the highest such bolthole in the city — with stepped theatre-style seating. Entry tickets, are at around Bt1,000-Bt1,200 per person (with kids and seniors at Bt500-Bt600) depending on the selected time slot. Size up your date and decide on what time slot he or she deserves 10am to midnight. Since reservations are not the norm here space can get tight. This is less of a chill cosy hangout than a bucket-list viewpoint with high turnover. Savvy diners might head to the hotel's quiter Mott 32 Bangkok for some inventive Cantonese.

More classy for elegant dining and an alfresco tipple is Le Du Kaan (www.ledukaan.com) with 834sq m of deck space to enjoy big Chao Phraya views and Thai bites in refined surrounds. Perched on the 50th floor of The Empire building on Sathorn Road, guests can us the skywalk from Chong Nonsi BTS Station.

At the corner of Lumphini, wet 'n' wild HI-SO and Park Society at SO/Bangkok have morphed into the elegant Iris & Wild Iris (iris-wild-iris) with the Water Club (the-water-club) continuing in tamer fashion on the 29th floor. This is a place for breezy views, cocktails and events with a green view and a night skyline framing the park. Timings are 11am to 8pm with a 32m infinity pool as the central attraction.

Across Rama 4 Road, also facing Lumphini Park, late 2025 arrival Piscari (piscari) on Level 23 of the Andaz One Bangkok does Mediterranean dining (with a tucked away speakeasy bar); while white-marble neighbour The Ritz-Carlton, Bangkok, does a breezy, informal Pool Bar (ritz-carlton-bangkok/dining) across a large timbered deck looking onto the green.

Very central but off the BTS grid, in a relaxed greem leafy neighbourhood a short sprint from Chidlom Station, Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok has its Bar.Yard (baryard-rooftop-bar) up on the 40th floor serving craft beer by the yard along with signature barbecue bites. With cool rhythms from around the world, top DJs spinning beats, and flavoursome nibbles this is party central in the heart of town. On the ground floor, guests are welcomed by the Kimpton's pet-friendly CRAFT cafe with its tail-wagging cohort (in search of liver-flavoured ice-cream) and the weekend lululemon set in need of a refreshing tipple.

This is around the corner from the whimsical art deco Hotel Muse Bangkok (now Autograph Collection) on Langsuan Road and its stylishly conspiratorial The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar (thespeakeasyrooftopbar) on the 24th and 25th floors. This is a convivial space with balcony perches, a terrace (with retractable awning) and hidden alcoves. The mid-range height of The Speakeasy puts you right 'in' the city rather than far above it and this adds to the appeal of this bar. Right opposite Lang Suan Road from Muse is the modestly recessed Sindhorn Midtown Hotel (now an IHG Vignette Collection hotel) with its 31st floor K-Pop style ANJU (anju-korean-rooftop-bar) Korean rooftop bar with a breezy 360-degree setting and cool vibes. Bibimbap to fried chicken and tall drinks - it's all here. Imagine a lively contemporary Korean rooftop beer hall with a view and you've got the general picture.

Launched with much fanfare in late 2018, the Hyatt Regency Bangkok on the busy Sukhumvit axis, had its own good-sport GM Sammy Carolus 'launched' by zipline off the highest point of its Spectrum Lounge & Bar (spectrum-lounge-and-bar) on the 29th floor for a showy media splashdown. Spectrum offers three alfresco levels with a DJ at its pinnacle as well as an airconditioned indoor area. Winds whip around here as vast views beckon.

Think excellent pastas and grills and warm attentive service. This is all part of the charm of this hotel (in a saucy neighbourhood) that punches above its class. Just up the road is the August 2026 arrival Canopy by Hilton Bangkok Sukhumvit and its laid back rooftop bar Glint (canopy-bangkok-sukhumvit) where guests move from poolside cabanas to canapes and cocktails as night falls.

Farther east along Sukhumvit, Octave Rooftop Bar & Lounge (octave-rooftop-lounge-bar) at the Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit on Thonglor is worth a visit for dining and entertainment. In this area also look out for the 46th-floor Tichuca Rooftop Bar (www.tichuca.co) with its dangling glowing LED tree and woody jungle decor over three floors of the T-One building, Soi 40 Sukhumvit; and the laid back breezy lounge-style Sanctuary Bangkok (www.sanctuarybangkok.com) atop the InterContinental Bangkok Sukhumvit. Sanctuary's design flows through its wood-and-bamboo sculpted leaf-motif above the bar — almost a great winged bird taking flight — depicting the interplay between humans and nature.

Nearby in shopping-mad EM District there's the Vanilla Sky Bar on the 35th floor of the SkyView Hotel. The clubby speakeasy The Ledger Room with live music, whisky and cigars of an evening is on the 32nd floor. Next door is the Madura Rooftop Bar (formerly Mojjo) where Latin beats meet Miami chic with a whole lot of smoky grilled meats thrown in. Pick Vanilla for style or Madura for foot pounding fun.

Up on the 30th floor of Staybridge Suites on Sukhumvit 24, find Lamaya Bangkok (lamayabangkok.com) and its wild world of illusion (5pm to 2am). Lamaya urges guests not to wear shorts, gym clothes or swimwear. The main action starts around 8pm swith a light show (as giant statues come to life) and fire dancers, before a DJ takes over the dancefloor.

A broad Japanese-inspired menu is available. Venture on to the Estella Ekkamai Hotel on Sukhumvit 63 to encounter the engaging 29th-floor Tulum Sky Bar (tulum.asia), a Mexican-inspired escape with tequila, dances and eye-popping shows.

Back in the centre of town (with direct access from the Ploenchit BTS Station) is the Okura Prestige Bangkok with its minimalist but stylish sliver of a bar perched on one side of the 24th floor Up & Above Restaurant (up-above-restaurant-and-bar). Grab a drink and perch on a red velvet bar stool in the high-ceiling lobby, sink into a deep powder-mint easy chair or, better, wander outside to an alfresco lip that protrudes poutingly. The service is exceptional, the seating at the bar cosy and uncrowded with dramatic views of the facing Park Hyatt with its silver metal exterior that catches the rising and setting sun reflections.

Also linked from the opposite side of the road is the elegant Rosewood Bangkok and its superbly designed Lennon's (lennons) speakeasy rooftop bar, which boasts one of the largest vinyl collections anywhere. There are over 6,000 records to choose from — with a record player of course — for a decent taste of nostalgia while you sip on cocktails named after familiar tunes. In our first look we described this as "old time magic at its best". Lennon's retains its charm and offers a cigar lounge for the intrepid up a spiral iron stairwell. Park on a rust-red leather chair and sink into the fabulous Sixties — or earlier.

Also connected to Ploenchit BTS via the Central Embassy mall, the Park Hyatt Bangkok is a quiet cream and pale gold confection with lots of feminine curves — draped in seemingly alien steel that ignites at sunset. While the Embassy Room does great tea sets with a violinist in accompaniment, the Penthouse Bar & Grill (penthouse-bar-grill) offers four floors (from the 34th) of lavish views and tastes. Check out the Chef's Table, and Grill (Level 34), and the Cocktail Bar with its jazz of an evening on Level 35. Here too you'll find the small and intimate Mezzanine with a private bar and 'wine wall'. Expect a classy New York vibe.

The sleeper hit in this area is the Hotel Indigo Bangkok's cosy 26th floor CHAR Rooftop Bar (charbangkok.com). This is a quiet and classy construct perched not too high but with a fabulous open view (thank the US ambassador's sprawling leafy residence for this) and wonderful skyline vistas. It is convivial, friendly and uncluttered, a place to have a conversation without shouting over the din. Nice music and great cocktails, a short stroll from Ploenchit BTS Station.

One stop away, via the Central World mall (Chidlom BTS) is much-photographed old timer Centara Grand and Bangkok Convention Centre with its 56th floor Red Sky Bar (red-sky-rooftop-bar). One floor below, the Red Sky Restaurant with its red glowing ship's bow serves European fare alfresco. Just across the traffic bejewelled Ratchadamri Road as the sky turns blue and tail lights glow red, another view emerges from the 32nd-floor Sato San Rooftop Bar (moxy-bangkok-ratchaprasong/dining) at the saucy MOXY Bangkok Ratchaprasong. The space is open, breezy and relaxed (in pink) with a VIP area as well.

The Waldorf Astoria Bangkok's 56th floor Loft Bar (the-loft) is all class and sophisticated Art Nouveau for the discerning set. Or bring your mum to the cream pastel Peacock Alley overlooking the Royal Bangkok Sports Club. Afternoon tea anyone?

The one that started the Bangkok sky bar buzz in 2001 was lebua at State Tower on Silom with its hugely photogenic 64th floor rooftop Sky Bar (lebua.com) that was featured in The Hangover. You'll recognise it from the signature circular colour changing bar. Adjacent is the alfresco fine dining Sirocco. Another trend-setter, the dark and matchbox-slim Banyan Tree Bangkok, often marooned in Sathorn traffic, was a hit with its spectacular Vertigo (vertigo) and blue-lit 61st floor Moon Bar that launched in 2002. Both were closed mid-June 2026 for a major transformation. Eyes peeled. Close by, at the JC Kevin Sathorn Bangkok Hotel is the 40th floor ZOOM Sky Bar & Restaurant (zoom-sky-bar-restaurant) with big views, pricey cocktails and average food.

On the other side of the Chao Phraya River the two best options are the Millennium Hilton Bangkok (closer to ICON Siam) and its quiet, relaxing ThreeSixty Rooftop Bar (threesixty-rooftop-bar); and the Avani+ Riverside Bangkok with a hip and Instagrammer-friendly 26th floor infinity sky pool (with a heart-stopping view offering an unusual reverse angle) and its SEEN Restaurant & Bar, a cool place to chill and eat. See-through glass terrace walls help open up the views. The vibe here is younger and more playful.

No Bangkok rooftop bar visit would be complete without a dizzying immersive 'experience' at the Akara Sky Hanuman (akaraskyhanuman.com) easily found a stroll from the Ploenchit BTS Station on floors 58-61 of cloud-tickling One City Centre. An entertainment zone in itself, the place offers you a floor-by-floor journey through Thailand culture and heritage — sky lanterns, old Siam, Loy Krathong, markets, food, traditional costumes, video displays, and up to the L61 Hanuman Sky Bar with its giant depiction of the deity, a centrepiece of hourly live shows and dance. This is an eye-popping vertical theme park Thai cultural extravaganza — best with a few chilled Singha beers — to enjoy the party vibe.
