Perched high above Taiwan's fabled Sun Moon Lake, The Lalu is an exercise in Zen, from its tranquil lotus ponds and swaying bamboo fronds to the gleaming teak floors and the play of light streaking through slatted windows.
The centrepiece of the design is an infinity pool running the length of the resort that seemingly flows right into the stretched-tarpaulin blue of the lake below. Surrounded by jade-green mountains, The Lalu offers a serene getaway for the discerning.
The suites have sweeping views of the lake, with its swirls of mist and the encircling mountains, while the private, enclosed villas offer partial views.

While the resort draws its name from an indigenous aboriginal settlement on the lake, there is nothing old-fashioned about the interiors. Every one of the 96 rooms comes equipped with a Bose stereo system, electronic safe, minibar and TV. Restaurant menus range from Chinese and Japanese to contemporary and international.
The Lalu Spa and Rejuvenation Centre offers a mix of eastern and western restorative treatments using natural products. Amenities include a herbal steam room, aromatic saunas and refreshing plunge pools.
Professional spa therapists are on hand to cater to individual requirements.
